Curtiss-Wright Receives Contract from BAE Systems
January 19, 2010
Curtiss-Wright announced today that it has received a $6.4 million contract from BAE Systems, a member of the UK Aircraft Carrier Alliance, for the manufacture, test and supply of over 8,500 tie-down link plates for installation on board the HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales.
Tie-downs are welded into the flight deck and hangar spaces and are used as "hard points" for securing the aircraft with chains or straps. Work for this contract will be performed at INDAL, a business unit of Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions, based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, with deliveries scheduled between 2010 and 2014.
"Curtiss-Wright is very pleased to provide its support to this important Royal Navy project," said David Linton, Co-Chief Operating Officer of Curtiss-Wright Corporation. "The supply of the Link Plates demonstrates our deep knowledge of the customer’s applications and our ability to work cooperatively with them."
The Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers will be the biggest and most powerful surface warships ever constructed for the UK Royal Navy. They will be a key component of the improved expeditionary capabilities needed to confront the diverse range of threats in today’s security environment. The carriers will each weigh 65,000 tons, are 280 meters long and 70 meters wide, capable of 25 knots maximum speed and have a total complement of approximately 1,500 personnel. The Aircraft Carrier Alliance is a single integrated team formed from BAE Systems Babcock, Thales UK and the UK Ministry of Defense.
