Curtiss-Wright Receives Multi-Million Dollar Contract for Systems on Japan’s New Frigates
July 15, 2019
To Supply Ship-Borne Helicopter Recovery Assist, Securing & Traversing (RAST) MK VI
CHESWICK, PA – July 15, 2019 – Curtiss-Wright’s EMS division today announced that it has received its next award to manufacture two more RAST MK VI Systems for the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) in support of their new frigate builds. The division’s INDAL business unit initially received an order for the first two new frigates in May 2018. These ships are expected to be a force of modern, high speed, multi-purpose frigates built in 3 baselines, the first baseline comprising 8 ships and a potential of twenty-two ships in total. The RAST MK VI is a helicopter handling system that fully integrates all of the functions required to safely operate and stow ship-borne helicopters in adverse weather and sea conditions up to sea state 6.
“We are very pleased to continue our support of JMSDF’s ship build programs,” said Greg Hempfling, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the EMS division. “Supply of these RAST MK VI systems to the 31FFM Program marks Japan’s fiftieth year of selecting INDAL Technologies’ Aircraft Handing Systems for its naval ships. This demonstrates our engineering expertise in providing advanced performance, reliable equipment designs and increased operational efficiency to the naval defense industry.”
INDAL, based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, will perform the work for this contract, with delivery scheduled between December 2020 and March 2021. Curtiss-Wright has delivered more than 200 of its integrated Aircraft Handling Systems to navies around the world.
