Curtiss-Wright Announces the Relocation of its Engineered Arresting Systems – ESCO Business Location to Genté, France
June 19, 2023
CHESWICK, P.A. – June 19, 2023 – Curtiss-Wright’s EMS division today announced that its Engineered Arresting Systems (ESCO) business unit located in Merpins, France will relocate to a new state-of-the-art facility in Genté, France. The move will allow for more seamless design, production, and qualification of some of the world’s most advanced aircraft arresting systems, including energy absorbers, engagement systems, and mobile systems.
“We are very excited to relocate the ESCO French operation to a more suitable location for its business operations,” said Greg Hempfling, Senior Vice President and General Manager, EMS division. “This new facility demonstrates our commitment to providing the highest quality products, systems, and services to our customers while also supporting the projected growth of ESCO’s business over the next 3-5 years.”
The new facility will be approximately 54,800 square feet, a 11,800 square foot increase from the current building. The move will also consolidate our workforce from three separate buildings located in France into one new facility, allowing manufacture, test, and front office capabilities, including engineering, management, quality, finance, and sourcing, to be under the same roof.
“Our business is experiencing substantial growth, and the new facility will allow us to meet our customers’ ever-increasing demands,” said Craig Scott, General Manager of Engineered Arresting Systems – ESCO’s facilities in France and the U.S. “Our systems provide a valued level of safety and protection for aircraft and high value assets, and this expansion will support our vision to continue to evolve our products and services to meet the challenging demands of our customers. Our goal is to continue to expand into a turnkey provider of energy transfer solutions, and this move will accommodate the increased capabilities required to do so.”
Construction of the new French facility is scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of 2025. ESCO’s facility in the U.S. (Aston, PA) will remain in its current location.
Following the 2022 acquisition of the aerospace arresting systems business, Curtiss-Wright’s diverse arresting systems product portfolio includes energy absorbers, retractable hook cable systems, net-stanchion systems, and mobile systems to support aircraft carrier and fixed land-based arresting systems. In addition, ESCO’s aftermarket business supports a strong, global installed base of more than 5,000 systems in over seventy-two countries.
