Curtiss-Wright Receives Follow-on Contracts from Bath Iron Works

October 17, 2011

To commence work on third ASIST System, Modular Track, Lateral Transfer System and Hangar Door for DDG1002 Guided Missile Destroyer

Curtiss-Wright announced today that it has received three follow-on contracts from General Dynamics Bath Iron Works related to the third-in-class "Zumwalt-class" guided missile destroyer platform. The multi-million dollar contracts authorize work to commence on the manufacture of the ASIST (Aircraft Ship Integrated Secure and Traverse) Helicopter Handling System, Modular In-deck Track, Lateral Transfer System and Helicopter Hangar Door for installation on the DDG1002 ship.

Work for these contracts will be performed at INDAL, a business unit of Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions, based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, with deliveries commencing in May 2013.

"Curtiss-Wright is very pleased to continue its support of this critical U.S. Navy shipbuilding project." said David Linton, Co-Chief Operating Officer of Curtiss-Wright Corporation. "The supply of the DDG1000 class flight-deck and in-hangar helicopter handling system and hangar door demonstrates our engineering expertise in providing advanced performance and innovative equipment designs for a wide range of aviation facility applications, and in delivering profound value to our customers through increased operational efficiency."

The Curtiss-Wright ASIST system provides for enhanced helicopter handling, day or night, even in adverse weather and high sea state conditions. The Lateral Transfer System is fitted in the ship's hangar and transfers the helicopter laterally from the ASIST system to parking locations on each side of the hangar. This transfer is accomplished while the helicopter remains fully secured and allows for the storage of up to three helicopters in the hangar. The helicopter hangar door is based on technology and product designs applied on the successful LPD17 class hangar door project.
