Curtiss-Wright Corporation Awarded Contract Options for Italian Navy Program

September 25, 2008

The Curtiss-Wright Corporation announced today that it has received notification from Fincantieri S.p.A exercising the option for the supply of four additional TC-ASIST helicopter handling systems for the FREMM frigate program, bringing the number of systems under the multimillion-dollar contract to six. The contract also contains options for an additional four ship sets bringing the total to ten ships planned in the class for the Italian Navy.

The TC-ASIST (Twin Claw-Aircraft Ship Integrated Secure and Traverse) is a variant of the well established ASIST system and allows integration of the ASIST shipboard helicopter operating concept without structural modifications to the existing Italian helicopter fleet. Similar systems are fitted to the Italian Horizon class frigates to provide a superior operating capability with both EH-101 and NH-90 helicopters.

"Curtiss-Wright is very pleased to continue its work on the FREMM frigate program," said a spokesperson for Curtiss-Wright "The confidence in the TC-ASIST Helo Handling Systems demonstrated by the Italian Navy confirms the performance and value of the system."

The FREMM frigate is a joint Italian/French program with a total of 27 ships planned in all. It is being designed to incorporate the latest advancements in shipboard mission systems.

Work for this contract will be performed at the Curtiss-Wright facility in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, with deliveries scheduled to begin in late 2009.

Curtiss-Wright Corporation Receives $2.4 Million Contract

September 10, 2008

The Curtiss-Wright Corporation announced today that it has received a contract from the United States Coast Guard Aircraft Repair and Supply Center (AR&SC) for the supply of Helicopter Probe and Aircraft Tracking System equipment for installation on the Coast Guard’s existing HH-65C helicopter. The installed equipment will enable the HH-65C to operate with the Aircraft Ship Integrated Secure and Traverse (ASIST) system-equipped Maritime Security Cutter, Large class platforms.

The ASIST system is a state-of-the-art deck-handling solution for supporting shipboard helicopter operations. As a truly integrated system, it provides the capability to perform helicopter recovery, on-deck securing, maneuvering and deck traversing operations through a single-system solution. The system performs safe helicopter securing in conditions up to and including lower sea state six without attaching external cables or requiring on-deck personnel. The combined features and functionality of ASIST enable the system to meet and exceed the latest requirements for high sortie rates and optimized crew size.

ASIST was originally selected by the U.S. Coast Guard in June 2004 for installation on its new Deepwater aviation-capable cutters. The system will operate primarily with the Coast Guard’s legacy HH-65C aircraft and will also be operationally compatible with the U.S. Navy’s MH-60R helicopters.

Work for this contract will be performed at Curtiss-Wright's facility in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, with equipment deliveries to AR&SC scheduled for late 2009.

Curtiss-Wright Corporation Receives $6.9 Million Contract

September 09, 2008

To Supply Hangar Door for the DDG-1000 Zumwalt-Class Ship Program

The Curtiss-Wright Corporation announced today that it has received a $6.9 million contract from Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding (NGSB), for the design, development and qualification testing of the hangar door to be fitted on the DDG-1000 Zumwalt-class destroyer platform as well as a production order for the door for the first NGSB-built ship. The total value of contracts for hangar doors could exceed $20 million with options.

The DDG-1000 Hangar Door builds on the multi-panel configuration and lessons learned from Curtiss-Wright’s highly successful LPD-17 Hangar Door project. The twin panel DDG-1000 configuration will exhibit low radar characteristics commensurate with the overall ship design and philosophy. The door will include multiple operating modes and will operate and survive under extreme load and shock environments.

The DDG-1000 Zumwalt is the lead ship in a class of next-generation, multi-mission surface combatants. It is being designed to require a smaller crew and be less expensive to operate than comparable warships. It will have a wave-piercing "tumblehome" hull form whose sides slope inward above the waterline. Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in Mississippi and Bath Iron Works in Maine will build the first two ships of this class.

Work for this contract will be performed at the Curtiss-Wright facility in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, with the delivery to NGSB scheduled for early 2011.

To Supply Reactor Coolant Pumps For U.S. AP1000(TM) Nuclear Power Plants

ROSELAND, N.J., May 6, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) announced today that it has signed an agreement with Westinghouse Electric Company LLC to provide reactor coolant pumps (RCPs) for up to four AP1000(TM) Generation III+ commercial nuclear power plants or a total of 32 RCPs. In conjunction with the agreement, Curtiss-Wright has received purchase orders valued in excess of $300 million to supply the first 24 domestic AP1000 RCPs. The RCPs will be used in Westinghouse's AP1000 design reactors which will produce 1,100 megawatts each. Curtiss-Wright's Electro-Mechanical Division (CW-EMD), a division of the Flow Control segment, will produce the RCPs at its Cheswick, PA facility.

"This landmark agreement is the largest commercial power order in Curtiss-Wright's history and signals that the domestic nuclear power renaissance is underway," said Curtiss-Wright Chairman and CEO Martin R. Benante. "Nuclear power is increasingly recognized as a clean, reliable and economic source of electricity that will help build U.S. energy independence at a time when it is needed more than ever. We have developed numerous advanced technologies for the global nuclear market and we are proud to be a significant and critical player in building the safest and most advanced nuclear power plants in the world."

The agreement follows Curtiss-Wright's September 2007 award to supply AP1000 RCPs for the Sanmen and Haiyang plants located in the People's Republic of China. The RCPs circulate coolant for the reactor and are one the major components of the AP1000 design. They are the largest canned motor pumps ever designed and manufactured by CW-EMD.

For over 50 years, Curtiss-Wright has been serving the nuclear power market, including the first U.S. nuclear power plant built at Shippingport, PA, and the first nuclear submarine. Over the years, it has positioned itself to be leader in critical nuclear technologies through investment in advanced product design and development.
